Firefighters from Egham used a hosereel to snuff out a car fire on Trotsworth Avenue at around 8.37pm on Monday, February 22.

Red-faced council chiefs mis-spelled Virginia Water in a report to councillors on Friday February 26.

The mistake, where the village name was spelled 'Virgina' was met by giggles from members of the public at a meeting of Surrey County Council's local committee for Runnymede.

Clearly the author of the report was too busy fannying around to spell-check his work.

The part closure and diversion in Lyne Road ends tomorrow (Friday February 5).

The resurfacing work by by Surrey County Council began on Monday.

Runnymede Council has released an update of council services during the adverse weather conditions.

The new update was released on Wednesday, January 13, but is subject to change daily, depending on the weather. It states that the Met Office predicts that the outbreaks of snow will continue through the first half of the afternoon but could turn to rain by the afternoon.

The evening will see drier conditions but remaining cloudy. Mist and fog patches will form overnight and road surfaces could fall to below freezing. light snowfalls could occur in the South East on Wednesday.

Adverse weather conditions across the borough forced the closure of schools and closed train services out of Virginia Water railway station.

Around six inches of snow fell across Runnymede overnight on Tuesday, January 5 but although the county council said it was prepared for cold snap and had stock piled grit and salt in anticipation of further bad weather, a national shortage has lead to limited usage.

New enforcement measures could be put in place along Stroude Road to combat speeding motorists.

Surrey County Council has today announced it has scrapped its plans for an Energy from Waste incinerator in Runnymede.

A massive waste burning incinerator capable of burning 160,000 tonnes of household waste per year had been earmarked for land near Trumps Farm, Longcross, as part of the County Council's waste plan.

But this morning (Tuesday, December 15) leader of Surrey County Council, Andrew Povey announced in a meeting at the council chambers in Kingston, that plans for the incinerator and a similar one at Capel, near Gatwick Airport, had been dropped in favour of increased household recycling schemes and a proposed £50million Eco Park near Shepperton.

Firefighters were called to extract an injured cyclist from a steep hill after he broke his collarbone on Saturday, September 19 around 2.30pm.

The 13-year-old boy had fallen from his bike at land near Trumps Green Lane, but ambulance crews were unable to extract him due to the steep slope.

He was then taken to St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey and treated for his injury.

A formal forum to raise community issues will be hosted by Surrey Police at Christ Church on Tuesday, September 17 at 7.15pm.

The meetings held on alternate months at the venue on Christchurch Road are a chance for residents to raise any issues or concerns with their Safer Neighbourhood policing team.

Refreshments will be served from 7pm.

Police are warning gardeners and residents to be on guard a spate of thefts from garden sheds.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team for the village has reported a small number of break ins to garden sheds during August where garden machinery has been stolen.

Police advise residents to keep sheds shut and locked, to ensure that garden gates are locked, and not to leave gardening equipment unattended.
